Pachinko
Pachinko isn't really pinball. Pachinko is more like a distant cousin to pinball machines. You won't see very many pachinko machines in the United States but you will see them in Japan. Pachinko is a gambling game. It contains elements of both pinball and slot machines. Metal balls are shot through the machine. If the balls fall into certain openings the slot machine portion of the game is activated. Pachinko machines are played vertically in an upright position and are not nearly as large as pinball machines. Pachinko machines come in many different themes. Don't be surprised if you see a movie-themed pachinko machine complete with LCD graphics. Similar to american slot machines, if you get a match you win. Rather than winning cash at a pachinko parlor you are given prizes. The prizes can be traded in for cash in places separate from the pachinko parlors. Pachinko is not so common in the United States. If you are more interested in how pachinko is played, there are web sites that offer games that you can play in your web browser. You may not win any "prizes" but you won't loose any cash either. If computer games are not enough you can buy your own pachinko machines. There are many used pachinko machines available which you can purchase online. Pachinko machines can be purchased on online auctions and websites. Pachinko machines are quite a bit cheaper than pinball machines. You can usually find one for around $200 plus about $50 shipping. A new pachinko machine will cost considerably more - usually well over $1000. Is pachinko more fun to play than pinball?
