What's Happening to all the pinball players?
It is true that in the 21st century, the 'old fashioned' pinball machines are losing out to the new graphically intense video games. Companies such Bally and Williams have been run out of business by not being able to compete with the changing entertainment market. And what now? Stern Pinball INC. is the only remaining pinball manufacturer still producing new pinball machines, but purchasing one costs more than buying a new video game system or a new computer -- almost $4000.00 more.
It is true that buying a brand spanking new pinball machine will set you back four to five thousand dollars, but what's to say you can't purchase an older pinball machine for a fraction of the cost? Nothing. Older pinball machines from the '70s and '80s, which are in practically perfect condition, sell for easily under $1000.00 which falls significantly under the price of a new computer.
Now, that the trend is moving more towards video games, there are games now devoted entirely to playing pinball machines. True, nothing compares to standing in front of an actual pinball machine smashing the silver ball around the play field with your various flippers and immersed within the game, but choosing to buy a game such as Epic Pinball is definitely a cheaper alternative.
Even though the amount of pinball players is decreasing over the years, we here at pinballers.com are dedicated to spreading the word as to why playing pinball machines is the hobby to take up. Pinball machines have been in existence for around a hundred years now and will be for the next hundred years. Pinball machines haven't fallen out of popularity because they're an outdated source of entertainment, they're still as much fun as ever and we need to spread the word and give the pinball scene a boost in popularity!
